Best Attractions In Ghent For 2018
When you are in traveling in Belgium you will notice that there are quite a few older cities that have withstood the test of time. Some of those cities, like Brussels, have been well known for the tours and the tourist who go and visit these cities. However, some of the other cities are not as well known for the amazing tourist attractions they have and this means you can easily miss out on some of the best places to visit in Belgium. One of those places that you will want to learn about is all the Ghent attractions. I know this can be a difficult thing to find out about at times, which is why I have gone out and did some serious study of all the best attractions in Ghent for 2018. This way you can come to this beautiful city and know that it is going to actually rival and in some people’s minds bypass the likes of Brussels and some of the other cities they can tour in Belgium.
How Did I Work Out My List
Well, I will tell you that I was looking at all the Ghent attractions and was trying to figure out which ones everyone would like to see. This was actually quite a challenge for me because I never really thought about it before and let alone thought about those who would be traveling as a family. Then I decided what the heck, I would look to see what attractions were family friendly, easy to get to, but also going to allow the entire group to have fun. This was actually quite a bit of fun for me and very educational since I never thought about doing anything this way, of looking at what I would want in other people’s eyes. So this really helped me out in making up my mind on the attractions that I was looking at. With that in mind, I present the best attractions in Ghent for 2018.
1. Ghent City Center
The Ghent City Center is not so many a single attraction as a major portion of the city. This is the city center, which in some cases could even be considered the downtown region. However, unlike a lot of the places that you are going to see this is a place that is going to have plenty of smaller family owned shops that will allow you to experience the greatness of Europe and Belgium. The place definitely will give you the feeling that you want to have, but also the interaction as well.
When you are at the Ghent City Center, I would highly recommend that you look at all the different chocolate shops and smaller gift shops in the area. These are going to provide you with something that you may have never seen before, at the same time some of the shops have been in the same family for so long they are using the time- honored recipes of a bygone era. No matter what, you will want to take a stroll in this area when you are in Ghent because everyone in the family will love it, but also everyone is going to enjoy the chance to see something different each time they are taking the walk.
2. Gravensteen Castle
Have you ever wanted to explore an older castle and know it has not changed much since the time it was built? If this is the case, then you will love the older Gravensteen Castle that is in the middle of Ghent. This castle is simply amazing and even if you do not pay to go inside of the castle, it is going to be a place that has plenty from the outside that is going to impress you because of the imposing size of the castle and the great look it is going to have from the outside. You may even imagine yourself leading an attacking army and seeing the imposing walls. However, just like all castles, it would be one that does have a moat which is a very cool thing to see.
Something else that you will like when you go on the inside is the chance to see some of the devices they would have used during the older time period. This is going to vary from anything like the torture devices to even some of the military weapons of the time. When you are here you will need to make sure you go up to the area that allows you to look over the city, when you do this you will be amazed at the views you would have had in the Middle Ages, but also with the way the city is laid out before you. This view is the one that you will actually love and when you come back to Ghent this will be one of those places you will want to make sure you check out.
3. Saint Bavo’s Cathedral
Touring a church may not seem like it would be that impressive, but you need to realize Saint Bavo’s Cathedral is one that is not only impressive in the way it looks, but it will also allow you to explore the history of the area. Not to mention for the most part the attraction here is free. So the price is definitely right. The doors to the cathedral are easily one of the most impressive things you can see and if you want to see the doors open you will need to check to see what time this will happen. Then make sure you are ready because when you see these doors open it is definitely impressive and you may even feel like you are entering into heaven.
Now, this is a place that does house quite a bit in the way of artworks for you to explore and look at. Not to mention the statues that are present in the building will definitely blow your mind because of what all they have to offer. If you do not mind paying a small fee you will have a chance to go and see the Tryptch panel. I will warn you when you are here you will want to make sure you are aware of what the weather is outside because the cathedral is large and if it is cold outside, it will most likely be cold in the cathedral as well since these are hard to heat.

4. Saint Peter’s Abbey
As you can tell religion played an important role in Ghent and this is another place that is going to hold the religious aspect in a high regard. However, when you are looking at this location you may notice that it is going to have quite a bit going for it history wise and in the beauty that it holds naturally. What is even better is this is not in the middle of the town so it does allow you to get outside of the town for a little bit, but it is definitely worth it if you want to have a chance to go out and explore this beautiful place.
When you are here you will want to make sure you are taking your time and checking out all the architecture that you can. This is going to make it easier for you to see the beauty the place is going to hold. At the same time, you will want to make sure you know the history of the place before you go because it is going to make it a lot easier for you to get the right information on why everything is set up how it is and how this is going to make a difference in the way it looks.
5. Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen Nature Reserve
Sometimes you will want to get away from all the headaches of the city and just enjoy nature. In some cases it is going to be very difficult for you to get out of the city, think New York City. However, in other places like in Ghent, you will find that one of the best attractions is the Bourgoyen-Ossemeersen Nature Reserve. This place is definitely one that is going to make it quite a bit easier for you to get out of everything that is causing the headaches in the city.
The nature reserve has plenty of trails for you to enjoy walking or jogging along. At the same time, you will notice that you are going to have a chance to enjoy the canals and the water that is here. This is going to make it easier for you to have a great trip and be able to enjoy nature. What is really amazing is the chance to get out and see all of the birds that are here and just enjoy the quiet.
Anymore Ghent Attractions?
Well, yes, the city has quite a few attractions for you to go and visit. However, I decided to provide the five best Ghent attractions for 2018 that I personally love. These were narrowed down based off of the information that I was able to find, but also off of the fact that I am looking at these and knowing they are going to provide a great trip for an entire family. All of these factors were taken in place which would help a family have a great trip, but also help people get a chance to learn about the area before they decide to start traveling in Belgium and not be sure what they would be seeing or doing.
