5 Best Attractions In Bruges Belgium

Bruges BelgiumBruges is a beautiful city in Belgium, but when you are traveling in Belgium you will find that this is one of those cities that is very easy for you to overlook with some of the other places in the country. However, if you do not overlook Bruges, then you will not be disappointed in your vacation as you will find this place has quite a few attractions but also is going to be a lot quieter than if you were traveling around Brussels or in the neighboring country city of Amsterdam. The problem is Bruges is such a hidden gem it is often overlooked. I will be honest, that is why I decided it was time for me to cover some of these attractions, which will make it quite a bit easier for you to see this is the best place to travel to in Belgium.

5. Frietmuseum

Do you like french fries? Do you enjoy eating potatoes in this form? If you do then you will love the Frietmuseum. This is a museum that is small in the scale of it compared to say the art museums that you can tour in Paris. However, this is because the Frietmuseum is going to focus on only one single food item and that is the potato. What is even more amazing is how this place would go on to focus on the Belgian fry more than any of the other fries that are being eaten all over the world.

What is really interesting about this location is the fact it is the third museum that was started by the same individual in Bruges. It is also in the same building as well, which makes it easier for you to tour three of the best museums in Bruges all in the same day and one of those made out list here. The founder of the Frietmuseum is Eddy Van Belle who also founded the Choco-Museum and the Lumina Domestica museum that is seen here. The Choco-Museum made our list, but the Lumina Domestica did not, but it is a great place to visit if you are interested in the lighting that would be seen in homes. So both of these places were created by the same individual so if you like one of these then you are sure to like the other one as well because they are set up the same, but also are very focused on what you want to see.

4. Saint Salvator’s Cathedral

Saint Salvator’s Cathedral is obviously a church, but what you will find amazing about this location is just how much abuse it has managed to survive. This cathedral was built as one of the main churches in the area and was built in the 1700’s which was a time that came about before a lot of the turmoil that would strike this area and that would include World War 2. What else is going to be interesting is the fact this cathedral is one of the few buildings in the entire town to survive this type of abuse and that is going to make it quite an attraction, but also makes it a marvel for you to go and look at if you like architecture or if you just want to go out and see something that is going to look beautiful and stunning.

The cathedral did catch fire in 1839 and this led to the roof collapsing, but it was rebuilt. What is nice about this place is the original part of the building, yes, part of that still does exist is dated back to the 12th century, so it will be one of those places that you will love seeing and just think to yourself if only these walls could talk what would they tell you. The artworks that are housed here are definitely going to make it quite a bit easier for you to enjoy the location and be able to look at some of the art pieces that were in the original building before it had to be rebuilt to what you are seeing today, which has been around since the 1700’s.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be in a hospital in the Middle Ages? If you have then you will want to make sure you know that you are going to the Old Saint John’s Hospital. When you look at this place you will notice that it is often seen as one of the best and oldest hospitals that are from the location. So you will love the fact that this is going to be a place that is very full of history and will make it easier for you to see that the hospitals of the time were not exactly the most comfortable places to be. At the same time, it also makes it easier for you to know this is a place you are going to be able to see some very old buildings.

Now, what you will really find interesting about this place is the fact this was used as a hospital as recently as 1977. So this is definitely something that is going to be an interesting tidbit that tends to get overlooked since everyone is used to the modern and soaring buildings that we have all gotten used to seeing. Just like most of the hospitals of the Middle Ages that would be used to treat the travelers and pilgrims, you will notice this place is definitely one that had a monastery and a convent as well. So this is definitely the best place to go if you want to explore the history of the city and how the hospital at the time played a pivotal role in getting the visitors to go along on their journeys healthy and happily.

I am sure that almost anyone is going to be aware of the history of chocolate that has been around for the country of Belgium. This is definitely going to be a great place that will showcase all of the histories of this sweet treat and will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the food that you are going to be eating all the time. However, what you will really love is the fact this is a museum that is going to take quite a bit of time out of the work they are doing to make it easier for you to see the health benefits of chocolate and this is definitely a great thing because you will really love the fact that you can finally talk to people about the reasons why you are eating so much in the way of chocolate each day.

When you are here you will notice that it is going to be easier for you to have a great time because you can also watch them making chocolate as well. This is going to make it easier for you to have a great time because you can see the process for making some of the worlds finest chocolate. Now, I will tell you the owners of the museum most likely do have a vested interest in the museum and the chocolate industry as a whole as they do own a fine chocolate location in town, which I highly recommend stopping in and visiting.

1. Groeningemuseum

When you look in the Groening Museum you may feel like the place is a little bit more of the hallowed ground you want to be at. That is because this museum, which is a very popular attraction, is built over an old abbey that used to be on the grounds. So it will definitely make it easier for you to have a great time exploring the artworks that are housed here, but also allow you to have a good time in getting to enjoy the place because you will feel more at peace, even if you did not know that the place was built on the grounds of an old abbey.

What is really neat about the Groeningemuseum is the fact it is a place that will provide you with quite a bit of interest in the Flemish and even the Belgian artists. The artworks are going to be going back over 6 centuries and this makes it easier for you to have a chance to explore the artworks and see the famous artist, but also some artists you may have never heard of before. So this is definitely going to be something that you will find very interesting as you will have a chance to see how the arts have changed over times and how the masters have developed their own styles.

How To Pick Which Bruges Belgium Attractions To Visit

I have to say, I would recommend checking out each one of these because they are each different in their own right, but also will make it easier for you to have a great trip and see something you want to see without the crowds pushing you along. However, I have to say if you are looking for a great museum and like food the Choco-Story or the Frietmuseum could be the great options for you to go and see. However, if you like looking at pieces of art then you will love Groeningemuseum. No matter what you are sure to love the fact that I have went out and found the 5 best attractions in Bruges to make it easier for you to plan your holiday to my beautiful country.
