7 Best Cities To Visit In Michigan

Traveling Michigan is a great way to see one of the most beautiful states in America, but also enjoy the Great Lakes as well. However, when you are in Michigan you need to realize you will have several different options you never imagined you would have never imagined having to decide between. Some of those options are going to be easy to decide, like which one of the lakes to check out, but you may have the challenge of which one of the coney’s you should get while in Detroit or even worse which one of the cities you should check out in Michigan. With that being the case, I decided it was time for me to share what I feel are the 7 best cities to check out in Michigan and why they have landed on my list here.

How Did I Narrow Down My List

I looked at this list and really started to figure out more about what I would want to do in the city. If the city has several things I would want to do, then I put it on the list. What else I did is if the city was one that I felt was safe it made the list as well. So this is based off of my own personal preference and I know this list will be different then what some people will have listed. 7. Lansing

Lansing is the capital city of Michigan and with this it does have plenty for you to see and do. However, at the same time you will notice the city is going to have plenty for you to see and do. What else is great is the city is one that has quite an extensive history for you to explore as well. When you look at the history you will notice the city has plenty for you to enjoy, but throw in the capital building tours and even the chance to see the government of Michigan at work it will be very easy for you to have a great trip when you are in Lansing.

Now, as far as some major attractions in Lansing you will find the state building and easily one of the best places to go, but you will also find Potter Park Zoo. When you look at this zoo you are going to be able to find plenty of rare animals and see these animals up close. If going to the zoo is not really your thing, you will find that it can be very interesting to check out the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, which is obviously a museum that will focus heavily on the Oldsmobile cars, but is a great place to go out and explore to guarantee you have a great trip.

6. Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids is a city that is a little bit on the smaller side compared to some of the larger cities in Michigan, but it is definitely a city you will want to check out. The city has a great location as it is a short drive away from Lake Michigan beaches and the amazing lighthouses that you can find in Michigan. What is even better a lot of these lighthouses are still being used on a regular basis and definitely will make it easier for you to have some great views for you to enjoy.

Now, if you do not want to go outside of Grand Rapids to have a great trip, you may want to know more about the things that you can do. Well, I can say that one of the top things you can do is check out the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Scuplpture Park. This is a place that has everything you will love to see and it even has a tropical section, which can really make Michigan seem a lot warmer if you are visiting in the middle of winter. If you are more into the arts, you will love the fact that you can tour the Grand Rapids Art Museum which has plenty of art pieces for you to see and enjoy.

5. Holland

Are you looking for a city that actually connects back to their roots? If you are and are in Michigan you will want to make sure you check out Holland. This is a great city that has plenty for you to enjoy and know that you are going to have a great vacation. The town is one that will give you a quiet destination, but it is set on the beach front of one of the inland lakes, but it does connect with the bigger lake, Lake Michigan. At this juncture you will see one of the most famous lighthouses in Michigan and that is Big Red, which is easily one of those that you can spot almost anywhere and as you can tell from the picture of it we have posted it is a lighthouse you will find amazing and really want to check out and see up close.

The one big time that you would want to plan your trip to Holland, Michigan would be during the month of May. This is when you will see the entire city starting to come to life with the tulips that are in bloom. The tulips are definitely a throw back to the cities founding fathers as the city was founded mainly by Dutch settlers. However, when you are able to make it up to Holland during the festival you will be amazed at the colors and the wide variety of tulips you can find around the property.

4. Traverse City

Traverse City is a city that is located on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay, which is on Lake Michigan. This obviously is going to make this one of those cities you are going to find enjoyable because you have so much to do with the lake, but also the beauty of the area you can enjoy as well. I know that this is one place you will really enjoy actually when you are looking for a great place to go in summer and just get away from the stresses of daily life. That is mainly because you will find the water is going to help get rid of the stresses of your life, but you can also find plenty of charter tours to take you out on the lake and make it easier for you to enjoy your trip.

One festival you will want to try to time out just right for your trip to Traverse City would be the National Cherry Festival. This festival is great for you to check out and it will definitely make it easier for you to have a great trip to enjoy as the festival will let you get some new ideas on how to prepare the cherries and how to use them. What else you will like is the opera house that is located in town and that will make it easier for you to have a chance to see some of the great concerts the famous opera house still hosts.

3. Saint Joseph

Are you looking for a town that is going to be small and have a lot for you to do at the same time you will find that it is going to be an amazing place for you to go as it is going to be located right on Lake Michigan. In fact, this is a place that has a pier that is going to go out into the lake and have a great time as you can fish from the pier if you want to, but also you will actually be out in the lake a little bit and this will allow you to experience the water. I will warn you if you are on the pier and the waves start coming up you will end up with some wet feet as the waves can reach the pier at times.

If you want to get away from Silver Beach and the lake itself, you may want to check out some of the great restaurants that are in town. I know that you will have some restaurants that are amazing and I have to recommend them all, but you will find the food you can get here is definitely worth the time you will spend at the location. You will also notice this is one of the cities along the coast of Lake Michigan that has a United State Coast Guard station and it will definitely make it worth your while to stop in and see as you can see the Coast Guard at work and know how they are working hard to keep all of us safe.

2. Detroit

Detroit is a city that is in the middle of a major rebuilding project and it is going to be a great way to see how some cities are going to recover from the collapse of some of the auto industry. Detroit has really focused on the rebuilding process and it is a city that if you are in the right area it is very easy for you to have a great trip and enjoy the area even more. You do have to be careful with Detroit and the crime at times, but you will find the major attraction areas and restaurant areas are safe to go to and will definitely make it easier for you to have a fun trip and be able to explore the city.

Now, one thing you will like about Detroit is some of the city tours you can take are going to really be amazing as they will take you to parts of the city you may have never thought about seeing before. A good example of this is some tours can go on will explore some of the factories that are abandoned in Detroit, but some of them will even be the haunted tours you can enjoy. No matter what, you will find these tours are a great way to explore the city and know you are going to see something that you usually would not be able to see.

1. Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor is a great city and definitely has ranked the top of my list of cities to visit in Michigan. This city is one that you are going to fall in love with as it is a college town, but it is also a city that has a lot going for it outside of the amazing football team and basketball team. The University of Michigan is located here and if that is not enough for you to go to the city, you will want to know more about the beautiful surrounding area. In fact, the picture we have for Ann Arbor is one of the statues you can find on the college campus and as you can tell this is a very beautiful place for you to enjoy.

Outside of the University of Michigan you will notice that it is going to have a lot of different attractions in the city itself. I know traveling with kids can be exciting and when you are in Ann Arbor with your kids you will like the fact you can check out the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. This is one place that your kids are going to really love because it is a comfortable place for you to go and enjoy, but it is also a place that you will be able to enjoy for the interactive exhibits you can check out with your kids as well.

Finding a great city to visit in Michigan is very easy to do. You just have to make sure you know about some of the 7 best cities to visit in Michigan. By knowing about where to go in Michigan it will make your adventures a lot more exciting and definitely will help you in getting the best trip you can ever have while you are traveling in Michigan because all of these cities are simply amazing.
