New Hampshire is one of the best kept secrets in America. While a lot of people have heard about all that it has to offer, very few really have a chance to take advantage of the beauty of this small state. Once you start to look at New Hampshire and see all of these parks it will be easy to see the state is one that preserves its natural beauty and takes great pride on the beauty that it has. Then you can finally have a good time traveling to New Hampshire and know you do not have to stay by the ocean to have a great time, that you can in fact travel a little bit into the state and still have a good time. With that being said, let us start on what we view as the best state parks in New Hampshire.
Pawtuckaway State Park
Located in the Southeastern part of the state is Pawtuckaway State Park. While the park is small in comparison to some of the other states parks, you need to realize it is rather large for New Hampshire. The park is going to cover 5,000 acres and that makes it one of the largest in New Hampshire. What is really nice is the park also serves as a beautiful nature preserve as well and that is going to make it easier for you to have a great trip because you can enjoy the beauty that is present and know the animals that you are seeing are protected inside of the park.
When you are at Pawtuckaway State Park you will love the fact that it is named after the mountains that are in the region. What is really nice is when you are hiking on the trails you will find they are going to lead to the top of the mountain out cropping that will make it easier for you to get the views that you want to have, but also have a chance to see the beautiful area from a great perspective that you may have normally missed out on.
At the park you will want to make sure you take advantage of all the amenities they have available. These include over 190 campsites, 15 miles of hiking trails, a boat launch and a beach. On top of all of these amenities you will find the park does have quite a few picnic areas for you to take advantage of and have a chance to eat a great meal at while enjoying the beauty of nature.
Greeley Park
This is a public park that is in Nashua, New Hampshire. However, what you need to realize is this is not really a state park in the sense that some of the parks are. Instead, this is more of a city park that has been donated and has hosted a lot of different events over the years. What is nice is this is a park that has plenty of trails for you to hike around, but also even has horse trails as well. So this will allow you to have a great time while you are at Greeley Park.
What is nice is this park has also managed to be one of the best parks for hosting the different events that are present in the city. So if you are looking for an event to do, you will want to make sure you check out the parks website as it is going to have a list of all the events that are going on and this has helped the people of the city have a great look to the place and know they are going to have a good time and know where to go.
Bear Brook State Park
Bear Brook is a park that is also a nature preserve, but it is a park that is going to come in at over 10,000 acres. So you will find that you have plenty of things for you to do and explore. However, you will also enjoy the fact this is located in the very quiet part of New Hampshire as it is not going to have a lot of things that are going to interfere with the quite that you want to have when you are visiting a park.
When you are at this park you will find they are going to have plenty of campsites for you to enjoy and camp at. However, if you are not planning on camping and only want to enjoy the park you will like the fact their are plenty of picnic areas for you to go out and enjoy. What else is nice is the fact that the park has plenty of trails for you to hike on as well if you want to have a great time. The trails in the park are going to take up over 40 miles, which means plenty of hiking for you to do.
If you are interested in fishing, then you will enjoy the small stream that is in the park and the namesake of the park. You will also enjoy the fact this is a park that has plenty of smaller swimming and fishing ponds that you are going to be able to go out and enjoy while you are on vacation at the park.
Inside of the park you will like the fact that it does have a couple of museums that you can enjoy. The museums are the New Hampshire Snowmobile Museum, Old Allenstown Meeting House, and even the Richard Diehl CCC Museum. These are all great and are located inside of the park so it will make it easier for you to enjoy the vacation inside of the park and have a chance to learn and explore at the same time.
Franconia Notch State Park
Franconia Notch State Park is one of those places that you will fall in love with while you are driving to the park. The reason you will fall in love with the park is the fact that it is located in the White Mountains. This means that you are going to get a chance to go up into the mountains, but not have all the tourist types of towns that you would in other parts of the country and world that has mountains as the main feature. So you will really love this fact because it is going to provide you with the beautiful backdrop for any of the nature that you want to go out and see.
When you are at the park one thing that you will enjoy is the state owned ski lodge. This makes it easier for you to get a chance to go skiing, but also know that because this is a state owned location that it will be kept up to the modern standard that you would expect. Not to mention this also allows you to have a lot of the safety features that you want to have because of the skiing that you can do on the White Mountains.
The aerial tramway that runs year round makes it easier for you to reach the summit of the mountains if you want to go out on a trail to view during the summer months. However, you can also find this is a great way for you to get to the top to see the sites that are around. In the winter this allows you to get out and see the skiing that is available. At the base of the tramway is the New England Ski Museum that will make it easier for you to have a great trip and learn.
What else is nice is this is a park that a lot of people that hike along the Appalachian Trail will like. That is because it has one of the only maintained huts in the state of New Hampshire. The hut is called the Lonesome Lake Hut and it is maintained by the trail mountain club. However, it is located very close to the trailhead and that is going to make it easier for people to find the trail and the hut and know they have a great place that they can rest in out of the elements if the weather changes on them all of a sudden.
Pisgah State Park
Pisgah State Park is coming in at over 13,000 acres and it is going to be a park that you will remember for the adventure that you have when you come here. While you may think the park will not provide that much excitement, you need to realize it actually will give you a lot of things to do and have fun while doing. The difference is this is mainly a woodland type of park that is located in Cheshire County.
The park is the largest in New Hampshire as well and covers quite a bit of the watershed as it holds all the watershed North of the Ashuelot River. Not to mention the park is also home to 7 ponds and quite a few wetlands all of these are going to help you in getting to see the park is a great place to go. Throw in the ridges and you have a great time in the park with hiking or fishing depending on what you are looking for.
What is really nice about this park is it does have numerous trailheads that people can go hiking on. However, they do not have to be limited to hiking at New Hampshire knows that people love to be out on their ATVs as well. So the park does have some specially marked trails that are meant for the ATVs and in some places even for horse back riding enthusiast.
