Groningen is a place that you are going to find to be rather interesting when you are in the Netherlands, but what you need to realize is one of the must-see attractions in Groningen is the world famous Groninger Museum. I know that this may not really raise your eyebrows that much unless you have been one of the people who are really interested in museums. This can be a challenge for a lot of people because they may not really know why they would want to go to a museum when they are in the city of Groningen. Groninger Museum History

This is a museum that does have a very interesting history as it was started out before it even had a building to be housed in. The museum was started in 1874 and would not have a building of its own until 1894 when it would be opening the Praediniussingel. While this location did work, it would be updated by the donation of a mansion from the last living heirs of the Menkemabrog in 1921. This is where the museum would remain until it would open the current building on the anniversary of the museum finding its first building in 1994. Since that time period, the museum has been in the exact same location and this has really made it a great attraction for a large number of visitors as it draws in a little bit over a quarter of a million visitors per year.

The architect that designed the current building, Philippe Starck, for the silver cylinder looking building. The yellow tower was designed by another radical type of designer in Alessandro Medini. With the pale blue space would be designed by Coop Himmelbau. What is even better is the architects made the radical modern designs to suit the bridges that would be connecting the museum to the train station that is in the same vicinity. The connection is one that the architects definitely would have considered as this made it easier for everyone to get to the location and enjoy themselves.

Well, as I said, in the beginning, this is a museum that may not really suit everyone as this is a museum that is going to be more of the art style that artists are going to enjoy seeing. However, what you will also find is this is a museum that will make it quite a bit easier for you to have a great time because of the types of artworks they have on display. So this will definitely make it a great place to go and learn because you are going to see a lot of the artworks that you may have never seen before. Well, I have to admit this is a museum that I really like and love. Yes, it is an art museum and that does make it boring for a lot of people. However, it is a museum that I really like because it allows me to explore all the different artworks I normally would not see. Then you throw in the collection the museum has on display almost all the time that is local to the area and it is easy to see this is a place that is very impressive and definitely a place you can see as more of a local history lore place as well. Overall, I would have to say the Groninger Museum is definitely a place you will enjoy and can be a very family friendly location.
